Electroless Nickel Plating
We offer MID-PHOS Electroless Nickel on aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper and brass.
Electroless Nickel is deposited by a chemical reduction process that reduces the nickel ions. It is also referred to as an autocatalytic process. Its main use is in engineering applications. Deposit properties of Electroless Nickel far exceed those of electro-plated bright nickel. Improvements in wear resistance, corrosion resistance and hardness are achieved. The coefficient of friction and stress of deposit are also reduced in comparison to electro-plated bright nickel. Uniform thickness is achieved on all surfaces where solution makes continuous contact. Our process uses the most recent technology which meets the automotive end of life vehicle (ELV) initiatives and specifications. Our process also meets the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) initiatives and Restrictions of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations.
We offer mid-phos EN on aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper & brass. The most common spec is MIL-C-26074 E… we offer all grades and classes, as well as the specs listed below. Please call us (x225) if you don’t see your specification listed here. We will be happy to research it to see if our process meets your spec too!
Please keep in mind that the thicknesses called out in the various specifications represent “thickness per side.” Another area of concern with Electroless Nickel is heat-treatment, or baking. The Mil-Spec recommends that ALL Electroless Nickel on aluminum receive a heat-treatment to improve adhesion. Further, hydrogen embrittlement relief baking (for at least 3 hours) is required after plating on steels that have been heat-treated to a hardness above Rockwell C31.
We offer certification to:
MIL-C-26074
AMS 2404
AMS 26074
ASTM B733-04 (We offer Type I and Type IV)

*About RoHS Compliance
Santa Clara Plating Co., Inc. is an RoHS-compliant facility. Processed parts will be RoHS-compliant unless otherwise noted in the Price Table. Explanation of the RoHS compliance notes in the Price Table follows:
- “No” – Processed parts will not be RoHS compliant due to coating chemistry.
- “Check” – Check with our Quality Department to determine if your part will be RoHS compliant. We will check for issues with solution entrapment and other design concerns. We can also help with your design to ensure RoHS compliance.
- “Yes” – Your parts will be RoHS compliant.
